17 Sites Like VIP Kid!

Hello, WAH family! I wanted to talk a bit today about other ESL sites that are similar to VIPKid! I have never worked for VIPKid, but their company is the standard, I assume because say they pay more than other platforms ($20/hour to start). These positions are great opportunities for professional teachers who would like to earn extra income.

Though most often a contract for employment will be involved (usually 6 months to 1 year), teachers work on their own schedules and can accept or decline shifts at his/her leisure. The majority of these platforms are based in China, so no matter the schedule you choose, it will coordinate with the time zone the organization is based in (ie, Beijing).

Teachers are not required on most platforms to possess actual teacher certification, but it is usually preferred and instructors will be encouraged to obtain the necessary certification. Applicants that possess a Bachelor degree or above in any field can qualify to teach English. Most often being a Native English speaker is required.

Instructors are moist often teaching kids between 5-12 years of age, though some platforms allow for adult instruction. Here are a few tips I can give you to help put your best foot forward.

Insider Tips:

  • Must exude energy and smile throughout the lesson. (over the top enthusiasm necessary, you’re working with little ones with short attention spans)
  • Your teaching area should resemble a classroom.
  • Your introductory video should be no longer than 1-2 minutes in length.
  • Use lots of colorful props, toys, and white boards.
  • Students must receive a reward when they’ve done something well. (ie, this could be anything, like gold stars)

Because of the strict teaching requirements not many make it through to teach, but these sites give you more options. You can also take what you’ve learned here and reapply with VIP Kid. This is a great list to share with educators in our personal/social circles, especially since teachers are currently feeling unappreciated! Most of these jobs pay well and could help supplement or create income(s) for those currently struggling. Share! Much success!
