Now That You’ve Created Your FREE Blog

This is the follow up to my post How To Create Your Own Blog FREE! If you’re anything like me, you are ecstatic to have gotten so far with creating your own blog. Most instructions I see around the net many would need an interpreter to understand! It’s not all that difficult. Of course now you may be wondering what to do next since its up and running. Basically, you have a blog with no face! We need to concentrate on giving your blog a face and a voice!

Introduce Yourself! 

One of the first things you need to do,is to create your first (3) pages. This way even before you have more content on your site, visitors can click links that go somewhere and not to blank pages. You need an ‘About Me’ and a ‘Privacy Policy’ page. You can create a ‘Home’ page to your liking, though one is usually created automatically by you creating content. 

The About Me page  is where you introduce yourself to your visitors and tell them what the main purpose of your website is (though this may change over time). It does not have to be named ‘About Me’, as an example, my page is labeled “My Story”. The Privacy Policy is important because it informs visitors that your site is not trying to steal informations from visitors. You can find a Privacy Policy online: Copy and Paste one that fits the purpose of your website.

 

Now we need to concentrate on a few things that are important to do. The first I would say is to make sure that you have an SEO pack installed to help search engines find your website.

What the heck is SEO and why does it concern you? SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. What this is has a lot to do with how  and if your site comes up when people search specific keywords. Your site is specified within the niche that you chose (Interior Design/Decorating), so when users search ‘interior design’ you want your site listed in those results.

If your site did not come with an SEO pack previously installed, you can search your ‘plugins’ tab to install one: those compatible with the version of your website should show up with a ✅ under them. Become familiar with the plugins…you will be using them to optimize quite a bit on your website. I posted a photo below of what the plugins tab may look like if you’ve chosen a WordPress blog, there should not be much difference with other sites being that this info will be in your website’s dashboard.

Do You see in the photo above where it says ‘add new’? That is what you click to search for plugins that are not listed here. Most things you need to optimize your website can be found by searching your plugins directory.

Once you’ve installed an SEO pack make sure you activate it. Now you need to submit your website to search engines. How do I submit my site to search engines and why? A website submission usually consists of entering the website address, the company does the rest. You need to let search engines know you have a website, and this is one way to accomplish that. Here are a few that need to know your site is out there;

How Often Should I Submit My Site To Search Engines?

Pace your manual submissions, submitting up to five pages per day per site maximum. Do not submit more than two or three times per week. If you schedule your manual submissions in this manner, you will be within the acceptable submission range for the major search engines.

We don’t want to leave out the security of your website. By adding security measures to your site your are insuring that your information will be shared by only you. Without extra measures, a hacker can steal your sites identity and information. You can find security plugins within the directory by searching ‘security’ or ‘site security’.

Socially Speaking

Next, you should visit the popular social networks and create pages for your website/business. Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, LinkedIn,Tumblr and Reddit. Once you create your pages start receiving followers and likes by introducing your new ventures to friends and family already in your network. (You should have created at least 2-3 posts) before you invite likes and follows: you don’t want your audience liking or following blank pages.

You are free to post photos and personal experiences on your social-business pages: it is important to regularly engage your audience. Of course your postings should remain relevant to previous postings and-or the regular content you post on your site. For example, if you regularly share certain parts of your personal life, it would not seem out of the ordinary to see a pic with your feet up sitting on your deck, with your breakfast being shown.

What is content? We covered that content was the subject of the blog. So anytime a person would visit they would expect to be viewing specific content.( Another word for niche is subject matter). Since your blog is about Interior Decorating/Design, any information that surrounds that subject will be considered content. For example, your first post may be about the industry/history of Interior Design. A travel blogger may want to add vivid photos or videos of places he-she has been with beautiful/unique interiors.

It is time to create your first post! As an Interior Design site, the biggest attraction will probably be vivid photos or any media displayed to tell the story. You could post more of a ‘day in the life’ type of post where we see photo, video, and graphics according to your daily experiences.

Concluding Thougts: Looks like you made it! Creating a blog does not have to be that difficult. Most of how we experience is based off of perception, if you perceive it as difficult, it will be! Take pride in having an opportunity to start your business and grabbing it by the horns!
